Just saw an article talking about how Elmo (you know, the lovable muppet from Sesame Street who helps children learn countless things from abc’s and 123’s to table manners & how to tie their shoes) went on TV to talk to kids about the storm & calm them down.

One of (if not the singular) biggest events in their short lives, and they look to a familiar face to talk them through the fear and uncertainty.

And Mitt Romney wants to de-fund PBS. Just think about that for a bit.

Elmo’s Song has over 68 million YouTube views. At 3:17 minutes, that’s over 400 years of singing along. 

For Audra, and her preschoolers, who have, no doubt, added at least one regular year and definitely one leap year to that count.

Lily, who is all kinds of adorable and sweet, with her fuschia-colored fur and bright red hair, explains to Elmo that she’s there volunteering at the food pantry (Elmo’s first experience at one of those), and that she sometimes needs to get food from the food pantry herself. “In 2009, 15 percent of U.S. households were identified as being food insecure, or defined as being with limited or uncertain availability to meet their basic needs due to a lack of financial resources,” said Melissa Dino, a producer on the PBS show: “Then, it’s estimated 17 million American children struggle with hunger—that’s really, really staggering in our country."
